SKIN REJUVENATION
As skin ages, it loses volume and moisture, and collagen and elastin barriers break down. This, in turn, leads to sagging, dullness, and visible lines of motion such as wrinkles and creases. This natural process is also made worse by sun exposure, smoking, and environmental factors such as pollution. While a proper skincare regimen can improve the appearance of your skin, they work best when used in combination with devices and injectables. Dr. Grossman will tailor treatment to your particular skincare concerns, and she will discuss various in and out of office options for overall improvement during your consultation.

Lasers are the new frontier of skin improvement. Hundreds of laser- and light-based technologies are on the market today for use in cosmetic dermatology. In addition to hair removal and skin resurfacing, lasers can be used to treat numerous skin conditions including broken capillaries, tattoos, discolorations, and age spots. These devices are targeted to a specific point and varied in intensity and in duration of emitted pulses. People with darker skin types can be treated, but there is a higher risk of pigmentation changes after laser treatment.

As a leading researcher, Dr. Grossman is on the cutting edge of new technologies, working to determine their safety and effectiveness and to establish treatment protocols to provide the best possible outcomes for patients.

TREATMENTS WITH LASER

RESURFACING
Different types of lasers are suited to treating specific problems. Non-ablative devices penetrate through to the layers beneath to boost collagen production, which gives the skin a fresher, plumper, more youthful appearance. Enlarged pores can be treated with non-ablative lasers. Non ablative lasers, radiofrequency, and fractional treatment are ideal for wrinkle reduction and acne scars.

To achieve the best results, patients typically receive several laser treatments with non-ablative technology. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a category of light-based rejuvenation treatments that offers the advantages of allowing patients to go back to work immediately. These treatments can be used to improve uneven pigmentation, rosacea, redness, sun damage and acne scars. Most patients see some improvement after each treatment session.

SCARS
Post-surgical and other scars can be treated with a variety of laser technologies. Acne scars are a common concern for men and women in their 20’s and 30’s who suffered with the condition in their earlier years.

HAIR REMOVAL
Dr. Grossman is at the forefront of laser hair removal technology, and is an internationally known researcher in the field. Lasers can remove hair from virtually any area of the body: the upper lip and sideburns, upper and lower legs, arms, chest, and back. Areas that require constant maintenance and are prone to ingrown hairs from frequent shaving or waxing – beard hair in men, and bikini area in women – are prime territory for laser hair removal. Since hair grows in three cycles, you will need about five to seven treatments to maximize your result with repeated maintenance of two treatments twice a year. 80-90% of patients will see long-term hair reduction. Dr. Grossman will discuss a personalized maintenance schedule at the conclusion of your initial treatment period. Generally patients return once or twice a year for a follow-up session.

CAPILLARIES
Dilated capillaries and broken blood vessels can be treated with laser by directly targeting the blood vessel without harming the skin. While a few treatments may be enough for the facial vessels, you may need several treatments to see results on other areas of your body.

BROWN SPOTS
The signs of aging and photodamage often appear on the hands and face in the form of brown lesions and patches of discoloration. These can be treated with the Q-switched Nd: YAG Laser (MedLite), Accutip 500-Spot IPL® Treatment (Cutera®), or LUX 1540™ Fractional Laser Handpiece (Palomar) for non-ablative skin resurfacing. Dr. Grossman will discuss which technology is best suited to your particular skin type and concern.

VEINS
Spider veins often appear as red or blue clusters close to the surface of the skin. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with their short jagged lines. Spider veins can be found on the legs and face. Facial and leg veins can also be treated with a variety of lasers and Intense Pulsed Light sources, including: The VersaPulse Laser (Lumenis®), Long-Pulsed Nd: YAG Laser (Cutera®), Accutip 500-Spot IPL® Treatment (Cutera®), and StarLux™ (Palomar). It is best to undergo the procedure when skin is not exposed to the sun. Several treatments are usually required, and some patients require periodic maintenance.

TATTOO REMOVAL
Dr. Grossman’s office is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to remove decorative tattoos, which are the most common type, as well as cosmetic tattoos and traumatic tattoos (from a bicycle accident, for example). She can also remove tattoos for medical purposes for patients who have previously undergone radiation therapy. The Q-switched Nd:YAG (MedLite) is gold standard treatment, using PhotoAcoustic action to target and shatter the tattoo ink so it can be safely removed through the body's filtration process

SKIN TIGHTENING
This is an exciting new application in cosmetic dermatology. Although many devices seem to work, to date none have been cleared by the FDA for marketing. However, many devices are currently used for off-label procedures. Radio frequency delivers deep, intense heat into the skin without injury to the epidermis to tighten loose skin on the neck, face, and body. Each course of treatment involves multiple sessions. Dr. Grossman uses a light-based and radiofrequency systems, including the Aluma skin renewal system (Lumenis®), Titan® (Cutera®), and LUX IR for fractional skin tightening.

SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS

MICRODERMABRASION
Dr. Grossman performs microdermabrasion to promote overall skin rejuvenation and treat superficial dead skin. Tiny particles pass through a vacuum tube to gently scrape away dead skin cells. Patients report that they immediately notice a “glow,” and softer, smoother, and younger looking skin. Makeup also goes on more smoothly following microdermabrasion. Monthly maintenance is required to achieve the best results.

GLYCOLIC ACID PEELS
Glycolic acid peels gently resurface skin to reduce fine lines, brown spots, blotchiness, and acne. Following a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Grossman will advise you on the ideal skin care regimen to suit your needs and particular skin type. The optimum program is often a combination of peeling treatments and selected home care products designed to enhance the benefits in between office visits.

LINES & WRINKLES

Dr. Grossman offers a comprehensive menu of wrinkle reduction and volume enhancement procedures.

BOTOX® COSMETIC
BOTOX®
treatment decreases local muscle activity, thereby preventing the appearance of “dynamic” wrinkles that are caused by repeated facial expressions. Botulinum Toxin A is a purified protein that binds to nerve endings, preventing the release of the chemical transmitters that activate muscles. When injected into specific areas of the upper face, it relaxes the small muscles that cause frown lines, crow's feet, horizontal forehead creases, and other facial wrinkles. The effect generally lasts from three to five months. In some cases, after multiple treatments, results can last longer and treatments may be done less frequently.

RESTYLANE®
Restylane® has become one of the most popular filling agents approved by the FDA for cosmetic uses. The clear, non-animal source hyaluronic acid gel is most commonly used to treat the nasolabial folds (creases from the nose to mouth), the nasomental creases (corners of the mouth) and around the lips, as well as cheek and chin contours. Topical anesthetic is generally used to minimize the discomfort of the procedure. The duration of Restylane® appears to be approximately 6 months or longer in most cases, making it an easy improvement to maintain. BOTOX® and Restylane® can be used in tandem to simultaneously create smoothness and volume.

COLLAGEN
Collagen is used to fill wrinkles and comes in many forms: it may be harvested from cows (Zyderm® and Zyplast®) or humans (Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™).

SPOT REMOVAL
Some non-cancerous pigmented lesions that are cosmetically undesirable can be removed from
your face, chest, and body without difficulty or significant downtime. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Grossman to determine if you are a candidate for spot removal. Dr. Grossman also addresses skin tags on the neck, underarms, chest, breasts, and other areas of the body that may require a simple in-office procedure with no down time.

SKIN CARE
Dr. Grossman offers a selection of skin care products to help you maintain a healthy complexion between visits. After discussing your specific skin care needs in consultation, Dr. Grossman will make suggestions for your personal skin care regimen. Inquire about available products including, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, sunscreen, and anti-aging products.
